PETSc (portable, extensible toolkit for scientific computing) is a suite of data structures and routines for the scalable (parallel) solution of scientific applications modeled by partial differential equations. It employs the MPI standard for all message-passing communication. The PETSc libraries are used extensively in large-scale simulation with application to nano-simulations, geosciences, CFD, electrodynamics, optimization, etc in industry and at the labs. The PETSc library is known for its accessibility to beginners and can be accessed through C, C++, Fortran and Python. The library includes structures for parallel vectors and matrices, Krylov solvers and preconditioners, Newton based nonlinear solver, and time integration methods, and more.
