The honors program in Engineering is part of the Illinois James Scholar program established to recognize and encourage the talents of academically outstanding students. Individual colleges run the James Scholar program independently and requirements are designed with the specific curricula in mind. Students in the program are expected to perform at a superior level throughout their undergraduate careers, maintaining a specified minimum GPA. Honors advisors are designated in all engineering departments to assist students with their honors choices.

The Engineering at Illinois Honors Program is built around two phases. The first phase serves freshman students, and the second phase is a coordinated set of honors activities spread over the sophomore, junior, and senior years. Admission criteria and procedures, continuation eligibility requirements, and various types of honors experiences for the Engineering at Illinois Honors Program are described in more detail on the accompanying pages.
