Welcome to CS428/429. I am excited to teach this class after being a TA between 2002-2004. I will borrow some of the great ideas from my predecessors, while making the class more interactive and participatory. You will have the opportunity to continuously share your opinions in class through iClicker, and be engaged in an active learning environment where you learn from many sources, including your peers in class, and interviews with industry leaders and famous authors.
Last semester, you contributed to the Eclipse refactoring engine. Doing so exposed you to the intricacies of managing projects that relied on a significantly complex platform. Building upon your experiences from last semester, you will be proposing your own projects and determining the platforms and technologies to run on. You are expected to follow an organized software development process and ultimately deliver a polished product with emphasis on good design, clean code, sufficient testing and proper documentation.
